The Code is the seventh episode of the third season of American Housewife, and the fifty-fourth episode overall. Written by Anthony Lombardo and directed by Chris Koch, it aired on November 7, 2018.
Plot[]
When Katie presses Greg on why they have used the code 4673 for just about everything since they met, he reluctantly tells her that on a keypad it spells "Hope" -- the name of his college girlfriend that he dated for two years. Meanwhile, Gina gets selected for the private ballet school scholarship and Oliver does not. Despite the pact they made that they would only go together, Gina says the opportunity is too good to pass up and she is going. At the same time, Taylor breaks up with Trip when he gets jealous over all the time she is spending with her theater partner, Pierce. Also, Grandma Kathryn tries to bond with Anna-Kat.
The episode starts where Katie tells Oliver to bring a bag. Oliver tells them turns out I don’t care and walk away. Anna-Kat asks Katie where did 4763 come from? Katie says it spells hope. Katie and Greg are at their room taking about the code. Greg tells Katie that the code is no big deal, then he kisses her. Doris and Angela say it is a huge deal. Katie and Greg are arguing about the code. They use it for their atms, phones and motel saves. Anna-Kat and Kathryn bond time together. Taylor and Pierce are rehearsing for the musical. Katie and Greg talk about a shirt that Katie wore when she was a kid. Katie and Greg are still fighting about the code. Katie tells Greg that she will sleep on the couch and Greg thanks her. During the commercial break, Katie is crying because of the argument that her and Greg had earlier. During midnight, Greg comes down and saw Katie break down in tears about the argument that they both had. So Greg talks to Katie about it and he hugs her when she was still in tearful mode. In the morning, Katie asks Greg why is there a code on the refrigerator? Greg annoys Katie by saying no reason. Then he keeps annoying her by saying if you need anything, you know the code. Trip comes over and talks about Taylor. Katie yells at Greg for hope. Greg tells Katie that it was an accident. But Greg tells Luthor it wasn’t, making Luthor happy. During rehearsal, Trip confronts Pierce about Taylor and Taylor breaks up with Trip. Then, Taylor starts crying so Pierce comforts her. Kathryn and Anna-Kat are still bonding with each other and see Oliver in the doorbell camera. Gina breaks up with Oliver and he start to get sad about the scholarship. Katie and Greg apologize to each other and kiss.

Greg: I think he doesn’t like us sometimes.
Katie: I know. He just wants the audition coming up.
Greg: yeah probably.

Katie: (glares at Greg) good to know (walks away)
Greg: (looks offended)
Katie: I’ll sleep on the couch.

Katie: (walks away angrily)
During the commercial break:
Katie: (crying)
Greg: (comes downstairs and sees Katie break down in tears)
Katie: (still crying)
Greg: Katie,
Katie: (touches Greg’s hand while she still cries)
Greg: Katie listen, I know about the argument that we had before.
Katie: (still crying) no not that I just want the code to go away. I’ve had enough with it now. (still crying)
Greg: I know. But sometimes we use it for everything and it is extremely important to us and I know it’s annoying. But don’t worry. Once we’re in bed tomorrow, it’ll go away and not come back to this house ever again.
Katie: (still crying) ok. (Still crying)
Greg: come here.
Katie: (still in tearful mode and goes in Greg’s arms)
Greg: it’s ok. (Looks sad for Katie)
After the commercial break:
Katie: why is there a code on the refrigerator?
Greg: (in an annoying tone) no reason. But if you need anything, you know the code.
Katie: (gasps)
Katie: hope? Really Greg? That’s the word you choose. (Runs upstairs)
Greg: oh come on it was an accident. (Looks at Luthor) it wasn’t (Luthor smiles at Greg and Greg starts laughing)
